Regulations That Affect You

Rules in Minnesota are adopted under the Administrative Procedure Act, Minnesota Statutes, chapter 14, and Minnesota Rules, chapter 1400. See the FAQ page for more on Minnesota rulemaking.

Rulemaking in Wisconsin follows a similar but different process than the process in Minnesota. Wisconsin rulemaking is subject to more legislative control but is better tracked for the public than in Minnesota.

Federal rulemaking is known as notice-and-comment rulemaking. For most rules, a federal agency publishes the rules and takes public comments, but there is no OAH-like agency that must formally approve the rule for the agency to adopt the rule.
